Rick Bart is the retired Sheriff of Snohomish County (retiring January 1 2008). Rick was elected in 1995 and served for the past 12 years.
Sheriff Bart was in law enforcement for over 37 years, 34 of which were with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office where he worked in virtually all areas including patrol, civil, corrections and investigations. From 1978 through 1989, he was assigned to homicide investigations and was eventually assigned supervision of all homicide investigations. He also commanded a patrol precinct and served as division commander for investigations.
His professional and community affiliations are many and varied. He is President of Families and Friends of Violent Crime Victims, Immediate Past President of the Washington Association of County Officials and for over eight years sat on the Executive Board and Board of Directors for the National Sheriff's Association. Rick is a former member of the Fight Crime Invest in Kids State Advisory Committee.
Sheriff Bart was a member of the Snohomish County Meth Action Team and remains dedicated to our local, state and national fight against the methamphetamine problem. He began the Snohomish County Youth Meth Summits in 2001 and over 10,000 students have attended. He was the first Sheriff in Washington to begin “Operation Lifesaver” assisting in protecting seniors with dementia related issues who wander from loved ones and can’t be located.
Sheriff Bart is a school volunteer and a Big Brother for Snohomish County Big Brothers and Big Sisters. He serves on the Mt. Baker National Forest Resource Advisory Committee, the Greater Trinity Children’s Learning Center and the Marysville Rotary.
Sheriff Bart and his wife Wendy live in Arlington, Washington. Wendy is the Executive Director of the Marysville YMCA. They have seven children and six grandchildren. Sheriff Bart enjoys hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, cooking, softball, baseball and golf.
